
The strong steel frame and motorcycle-style 17-inch wheels give a strong, rigid feel, while the overall size and wheelbase makes carving up a canyon road effortless. The coolest thing about riding such a powerful, lightweight electric moped is how nimble it is. While I never saw the promised 60 mph figure, I got close enough that I can’t complain. I felt this weird, child-like glee as I whizzed off at admittedly dangerous speeds on a vehicle that felt no larger than a standard bicycle, yet rocketed me up to 59 mph.

I wish it had a full twist grip, some minimal turn signals, a better headlight, but all of those things are really easy mods so they’re not too concerning.An electric moped in the truest sense of the word “moped,” the ONYX RCR is a beast of an electric motorbike. But the sort of Frankenstein home made aspects of it are also what I love because it’s ripe for fun modifications and improvements. Somethings work great, others like the bamboo cover can be a hassle to take on and off. Downsides are really anything related to the home brewed quality of the bike. It turns heads, the combination of styling speed and silence really makes it stand out. It’s just a nice size weight and speed for cruising but not too cumbersome Love the ride, torque is out of control and you could absolutely pull the front wheel off the ground if you’re not careful. I am 5’8” and 118lbs although I’ve put a bunch of friends on the bike and even the tall ones were surprised at the comfort, it’s a pretty tall bike. Aesthetics, my familiarity with 2-Stroke mopeds and parts already, top speed, and enough range to get around town are all the reasons why this was the bike for me.
